Editorially reviewed on October 29, 2026Medical review: pending

Quick answer

The Menopause Cost Index is a monthly record of what menopause care costs in the Philippines. It tracks the same basket every month: hormone therapy and non-hormonal medicines, common supplements, hormone and thyroid tests, bone density scans, mammograms and doctor consults. Every price shows its source and the date we checked it. This edition uses prices checked October 2026.

Why we track it

"Magkano ang HRT?" is one of the most common menopause questions in the Philippines, and until now there was no public answer. Prices are scattered across pharmacy product pages, lab PDFs and Facebook posts, and they change. The index puts them in one place and keeps a history, so you can see whether care is getting cheaper or dearer, and journalists, researchers and clinics can cite a dated number instead of a guess.

What is in the basket

Hormone therapy (Rx). Estradiol gel, micronized progesterone (two brands), dydrogesterone, medroxyprogesterone acetate, conjugated estrogens, tibolone, and vaginal estrogen (estradiol tablets and estriol cream). We also record products we cannot find in Philippine retail, such as estradiol patches, so their absence is tracked too.

Non-hormonal Rx. Paroxetine, gabapentin and alendronate with vitamin D3. Fezolinetant is listed as not available until we find it registered and sold here.

Supplements. Femarelle, LAC Women's Menopause Relief, Healthy Options Menopause Formula, evening primrose oil, calcium with vitamin D, and USANA PhytoEstrin. Being in the index is not an endorsement; see the supplement checker for evidence ratings.

Labs. FSH, LH, estradiol, TSH, FT4, lipid profile, HbA1c and vitamin D.

Imaging. DXA (spine and hips, forearm, whole body), transvaginal ultrasound, breast ultrasound and mammogram.

Consults. OB-GYN consults at government and private hospitals, and specialist teleconsults.

Example headline figures this month: estradiol gel ₱1,185.50 per 80 g pump pack (Watsons), micronized progesterone ₱85.75 per capsule (Watsons), DXA ₱2,400 per scan (Exact Check), TSH ₱490 per test (Exact Check). Prices checked October 2026.

How we collect prices

  1. Same items, same sources, every month. Each item has a fixed source: the retailer product page, the lab's published price list, or a named secondary source.
  2. Public prices only. We record the list price a member of the public would see. Member discounts are noted but not used as the headline.
  3. Dated and linked. Every price has a "last checked" date and a link to where we found it.
  4. Verified vs secondary. Prices we read on the provider's own page are marked verified. Prices from aggregators or search snippets are marked secondary and flagged for re-checking. Consult fees, most mammogram prices and some ultrasound and DXA prices are secondary today, and we are re-checking them with providers.
  5. Pharmacy gaps. Mercury Drug and MedsGo block automated price checks, so they are not in the index yet. We plan to add them by hand.
  6. No sponsored prices. No company pays to be included, and we do not change a price because of a partnership.

The cost calculator on our costs page uses the same data, so its example regimens always match the index.

How to use or cite the index

Journalists, students and health writers are welcome to cite the index. Please cite it as "Menopause Cost Index, menopausephilippines.com, [month and year]" and link to this page. Each figure on the dashboard has its own source if you need to go to the original.
